| The Royal Birkdale Golf Club Will be host to the 137th Open Golf Championship for the ninth time between the 17 - 20 July 2008. Irishman Padraig Harrington the defending Open champion will be hoping to secure his second major, Harrington won at Carnoustie in 2007 after a four hole play off against Spains Sergio Garcia. |

Royal Birkdale Golf Club has been voted the number 1 golf course in Britain, and is among the best in the world. It was formed back in 1889 and has staged 8 Open Championships, 2 Ryder Cups, Curtis Cup and a host of other internation events.
Royal Birkdale first hosted the Open in 1954 and in 1971 staged the 100th Open won by Lee Trevino. Previous winners include Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, Tom Watson, Ian Baker-Finch and Mark O'Meara.
