Argyll on the west coast of Scotland begins on the outer edge of Glasgow, extends to the North to Glencoe, and to the most westerly point at Ardnamurchan and it also has twenty six inhabited islands.
This area is the birthplace of the Scottish nation and the gaelic language in Scotland. Argyll is a popular holiday destination with lots to see and do for everyone, with many activities such as bird watching, golf, fishing, walking and climbing. The principal towns of Argyll are Helensburgh, Campbletown, Oban, Dunoon and Lochgilphead.
One of the most famous areas is the Mull of Kintyre which is a long peninsula south of Campbletown with a light house at Macrihanish. The cowal peninsula extends south west between Loch Long and the picturesque Loch Fyne and is now part of Scotland’s first national park, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs. The traditional seaside town of Dunoon which is on the cowal peninsula hosts the largest Highland Games in the world.
Argyll also stretches to the northern end of Loch Lomond the largest inland loch in Britain. Glencoe is the most famous area in Scotland for rock and ice climbing with its wild mountains and the vastness of its valleys, it is also steeped in history as the setting for the massacre of the MacDonalds of Glencoe by the Campbells.
